Hercules Civic Center
Hercules, California

The proposed new Hercules Civic Center, transforms a suburban municipal complex in to a mixed use Civic Center. A civic clock tower and the formal civic presence of the auditorium building and the new city administrative offices along Sycamore Avenue, along with a new street-level plaza and the existing library, establish a strong civic presence. The scheme is oriented around a network of walkable streets that encourage walkability to and within the project. The new civic center block is oriented around a new civic courtyard that is 10’ above Sycamore Avenue that the new civic auditorium and city offices spill out onto, thus enabling it to function for outdoor events. To the west, a small, neighborhood-scale main street creates amenities for employees, passersby, and existing and new residents. A separate police building is integrated on the western side of the planning area, and a potential 5-story office building is integrated into the northern section of the plan to be visible from the highways.
