Leo Casas has a passion for the design and implementation of well-crafted traditional and classical architecture. He is a Registered Architect whose practice has led him from the offices of Ferguson & Shamamian, Architects in New York, to Curtis & Windham, Architects in Houston, to Basinger, Pennington and Associates in his hometown of San Diego, and most recently to Opticos Architecture. Leo is the President of Opticos Architecture and is managing the Seaside, Florida office.

In 2005, he was hired as the Seaside, Florida Town Architect. In this role he is responsible for design review of all new projects in Seaside as well as coordinating the implementation of the downtown and beachside Master Plan completed by Opticos. Leo is also working closely with renowned European architect, urbanist, and author Leon Krier as the Architect of Record for his 125’ tall civic tower in Seaside. Leo is also managing the architecture for new market buildings that flank the Krier tower.

Work on an array of building types has taken him throughout the United States, including Montana, Florida, California, New York, Texas, Nevada, Illinois, New Mexico and Arizona. His training began in the building trades under the tutelage of his father, who is a general contractor in San Diego. He continued his training and education at the University of Notre Dame where he received both his Bachelor of Architecture in 1994 and Master of Architecture in 1996.

His work has been exhibited widely, including at “The Other Modern” exhibition in Bologna and most recently at the Institute for Classical Architecture’s exhibition, “The Classicist: A Decade in Architecture” in New York.

From 2003-2004 he taught at the University of Notre Dame’s Rome program in architecture, and in 2005 he taught an architecture studio at the New School in San Diego, California.
