Livermore, California's Development Code Rewrite with Form-Based Code Integration Adopted
An Opticos lead team completed a citywide development Code update for Livermore, California that integrates a Form-Based Code framework into the overall zoning code. The primary Form-Based Coding objectives were: promote community-sensitive infill development regulations; reinforce smart growth principles that will help reduce vehicle trips and facilitate pedestrian and bicycle travel; and encourage sustainable development by favoring infill projects which maximize the use of existing infrastructure. The project was partially funded by a Caltrans Community Based Transportation Planning Grant. This Code uses a structure very similar to that of the groundbreaking Miami 21 Code, but shows how to modify a similar approach and code for a community that has a high percentage of suburban development already in place.
